What is CRISP?
We are a local Blue Mountains expression of a Global Movement.
The Community Refugee Integration and Settlement Pilot (CRISP) is inspired by the successful community refugee sponsorship program operating in Canada since the late 1970s enabling which more than 325,000 refugees to build a new life in Canada, in addition to those resettled under the government-funded resettlement program.
Similar programs are now being implemented in many countries around the world, including the UK, US, NZ and Ireland.
The Australian government selects refugees to participate in CRISP, drawing on those identified by the UNHCR as being in most urgent need of resettlement.
Refugees arrive as permanent residents eligible for government-funded English classes, Centrelink support, Medicare and most other federal, state and local services.
We help these refugees settle into the community, give them guidance and practical support - Connecting them to services and giving them a ‘head start’. We do all this through a spirit of Friendship.
